A Note to Our Readers

Wednesday, March 26, The Spectrum debuted a new layout for the front page of the paper. We scrapped the old "Spectrum" logo (known as a flag, for those who care) and replaced it with a softer, more modern look, at the same time anchoring it to the left side of the paper and removing the Baird Point graphic. We moved the weather icon from the upper right corner to the lower left corner, at the bottom of a new column created to offer the viewer more entry points into the paper. With the free space created at the upper right corner of the paper, we added a "tiffany" or "teaser," so called because we can "tease" another story on the top fold.

It may not look like it, but that design took well over two weeks of work from three staff members, and it went through an in-depth critique from a layout designer at the Syracuse Post-Standard. The point to all that work is to provide you, The Spectrum's readership, with a more professional newspaper that is easier to use and more pleasant to read.

If you have any suggestions or comments on the new layout, come let us know.
