Men's Soccer
The UB men's soccer team concluded their regular season on Tuesday night with a 1-0 loss to local rival Canisius at the Demske Sports Complex. The only goal of the game came when Ryan Dummett of Canisius tapped in a direct kick from Golden Griffin Chris Robey who was 25 yards out at the 3:41 mark in the first half. The loss dropped the Bulls to 6-8-1.
Buffalo is waiting to see who they will play in the quarterfinals of the MAC playoffs, which begin, on Nov. 8. The quarterfinals and semi-finals of the tournament will be played at Marshall University. The championship game will be played on the home field of the highest remaining seed.
The UB women's crew team was able to come away with two wins as they took victories in both the Novice-4 and Novice-8 races at the Head of the Fish Regatta, which is on the Fishkill river in Saratoga, N.Y.
The Novice-4 team consisted of stroke seat Chandra Hazey, third seat Lauren Dunn, second seat Karen Corey, bow seat Bonnie McVicker, and coxswain Dawn Kavanaugh. They finished the course in 15:47, five seconds faster than the second-place squad from Bowdoin.
The winning Novice-8 boat, UB's A-boat, was manned by stroke seat Hazey, seventh seat McVicker, sixth seat Joanne Olsen, fifth seat Dunn, fourth seat Maggie Cote, third seat Marla Hardin, second seat Corey and bow seat Stephanie Spinella with coxswain Kaitlin Buchheit.
Buffalo concludes the fall head race competitions when they compete in the annual Frostbite Regatta in Philadelphia on Nov. 9.
UB will play an exhibition game against the Syracuse Action at 2 p.m. Saturday in Alumni Arena. It is the team's only exhibition game. Their season begins for real Nov. 22 at St. John's.
The men's basketball team has no exhibition games and will open their season at home on Nov. 22 against Cornell.
