The Position

Mary Harley Gresham is the dean of the Graduate School of Education and the vice president for Public Service and Urban Affairs at UB. As dean, Gresham is responsible for overseeing the faculty, departments and activities of the Graduate School of Education. As vice president, she is responsible for leading coordination and promotion efforts for public service initiatives in a variety of areas, such as public education and urban revitalization, as well as forging new partnerships between UB and the Western New York region.

In addition, Gresham supervises all programs that fall under the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Urban Affairs, including the University Community Initiative, the Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth, the Center for Applied Technologies in Education, the Educational Opportunity Center and the Office for University Preparatory Programs.

The Person

Gresham is a UB veteran, having earned both her joint bachelor's degree in philosophy and psychology and her doctorate in counseling psychology from the university. In 1995, she graduated from Leadership Buffalo and received the National Sojourner Truth Meritorious Award from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club as well as the Graduate School of Education Dean's Service Award.

Currently, Gresham serves as adjunct professor in the departments of counseling psychology and African-American studies in addition to a broad spectrum of public service committees and boards, including the Buffalo Urban League Board of Directors; Women for Human Rights and Dignity Advisory Board; the Buffalo Prep Board of Directors; the United Way Board Governance Minority and Women Inclusiveness Project; Fannie Mae Western and Central New York Advisory Board; the Board of Directors of the Children's Foundation of Erie County; and National Conference for Community and Justice Board of Directors.

Gresham is also chair of the Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross.
