Colgate v. UB

Women's Volleyball

In a match that lasted only the three-game minimum, the UB Bulls outscored the Colgate University Raiders (30-16, 30-18, 30-28) in front of a rowdy crowd last Tuesday night.

The team collected their fourth win this year to up their overall season record to 4-11 (0-6 MAC).

The Bull's sweeping win over the Raiders was best described by UB sophomore Lindsay Matikosh, who said, "It's a confidence booster for us and for this weekend. We have two very tough teams coming in. It'll help us get through the next two matches."

Led by freshman setter Airin Edrosolan's exemplary performance, and her career-high 22 assists, nine different Bulls recorded kills in the match. Sophomore Alexis Bouie led all UB players with nine kills, seven digs and a match-high eight blocks. Another match-high was posted by Matikosh, who had 12 digs to complement her six kills and six blocks.

The Bulls got a big lift from the outstanding play of freshman Katie Henry and her 11 digs, two service aces and five kills. Another UB career-high was set by freshman Molly Schrantz with five blocks to go along with her six kills and eight digs.

In games two and three, UB Head Coach Nadine Lilavois made a wise move by playing all six of her underclassmen.

"Everyone did well. And that was their first time playing together. And they will be the six returnees next year. It was a good opportunity for them to play together and get to know each other. They did a good job as a team."

The Bulls face MAC rival Western Michigan at 7 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
