New York State Regulations for Pharmacists

New York State is losing pharmacists to other states. For better pay, mostly, but also because of New York's stringent regulations that preclude pharmacists from performing tasks that are covered in their certification.

SA Assembly Debates Possible SUNY Tuition Increase

During a meeting of the Student Association Assembly on Monday night, student representatives debated whether students should support or act against SUNY tuition increases proposed in the New York State Budget, which is due for approval by January.SUNY Student Assembly Delegate Anthony Burgio said that during the SUNY SA fall conference, delegates discussed the issue of a tuition increase and after an executive committee last week, decided to back the proposal."SUNY SA supports a moderate rational tuition increase, only if the state ties in a plan to put a cap on fees, and if there is an increased state participation (in higher education)," Burgio said.

Ice Bulls Slip In Overtime

Some would say that hockey is a game of bounces. Tuesday night, Erie Community College got most of them.The ECC Kats 3-2 defeated the UB men's club ice hockey team in overtime on Tuesday night at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

Mighty Taco Student Section Debuts Tonight

Famous - or infamous, depending on one's point of view - student sections are found at every level of college basketball, from the "Cameron Crazies," who bleed blue and white for the Duke Blue Devils, to the "Rose Rowdies," who pester visitors that dare enter the Rose Arena while they root for the Central Michigan Chippewas.Due to an undisclosed donation to UB from Andy Geravick, president of the Mighty Taco Corporation, the UB Bulls may establish their own intimidating student section.Tonight will mark the debut of the "Mighty Maniacs," the nickname given to those who sign up to sit in the student section of Alumni Arena while the Bulls host Cornell University in their men's basketball season opener at 8:15 p.m.Unlike the "Bull Pen" last year, which was placed behind the visiting team's basket, this year's student section is located behind the visitors' bench in sections F and G.Students can sign up at a table in the Student Union from noon to 2 p.m.

VolleyballUB Head Coach Sally Kus has announced the early signing of three recruits, Tara DeMage (Red Bud, IL/Red Bud), Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Wendy Haskell (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence), to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Buffalo in 2003.

The Pennsylvania State Senate unanimously passed a bill this week that would mandate all private and public schools in the state to begin each school day with the Pledge of Allegiance or the national anthem.

"NHL, Sabres Close to Finalizing Buyer"

The Sports Network of Canada reported Tuesday that a tentative deal regarding the purchase of the Buffalo Sabres is "imminent." The organization, which cited undisclosed sources, said that the deal could occur within 24 hours.NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was in Buffalo last week and announced that the process was closer to its conclusion than to its beginning.
