Golden Gophers Claim NCAA Hockey Title for Second Straight Year

Minnesota head coach Don Lucia said before his team's practice Friday afternoon at HSBC Arena that he did not know if his hockey club was a great team.After the Golden Gophers' performance Saturday night in the NCAA Championship Game, the only thing Lucia did not know was who was going to carry the National Championship trophy to the team bus.It could be argued that after Barry Tallackson scored to put the University of Minnesota up 4-1 on New Hampshire with 6:26 left in the third period, how to transport the trophy to the team bus was Lucia's toughest remaining decision.

Fighting Cancer with Animation

For the members of UB Anime, the club devoted entirely to Japanese animation, sitting through a 26-hour anime marathon is a small price to pay to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.More than 30 UB students gathered in front of a big screen TV in Lehman Hall Friday to watch anime and raise money for the charity.

Bulls Rebound to Take Two From Marshall in Four-Game Series

Tie game, bottom of the tenth. Two strikes and one ball with two men on base and one out when UB sophomore John Boom stepped to the plate on Sunday afternoon against Marshall pitcher Grant Harper."I was expecting a fastball, but the pitcher threw a change-up and I was able to adjust and get the hit," said Boom.Boom drove a single straight to left field, driving in his teammate, senior Brandon DiCesare for the winning score."I swung at a couple of bad pitches, but then he threw me one right down the middle ... I was just trying to hit it hard," said Boom.When all was said and done, Buffalo split the series with Marshall 2-2.

GSA Presidential Candidate Files Election Complaint

Citing a number of allegedly breached procedures, Kannan Nagarajan, a presidential candidate in the Graduate Student Association elections, filed several complaints yesterday with the GSA Elections Committee.Kannan, who lost the election to Xun Liu, alleged the Elections Committee counted the ballots at an improper time, gave other candidates more space in an advertisement and allowed candidates who did not satisfy requirements to run."They were wrong in multiple places," said Kannan.

Faces of UB: Ron 'the Sandwich Guy' Smith

A trip to Putnam's in the Student Union may lead some students to the Red Hat Deli, where a cheerful Ron Smith serves droves of UB students daily.To satisfied patrons, the tall, slim man with long salt and pepper hair tied back in a ponytail is known as simply "Ron the Sandwich Guy".Taking both of his breaks for his 8-hour shift together, Smith welcomed the chance to sit and talk about a place he loves to be - UB."I have worked at UB for nine years, and after working in Pistachio's, Goodyear and Governors, I have found my place here at the Red Hat Deli in Putnam's," Smith said.
