On Thursday morning, every UB student received an e-mail from the Student Association declaring two things: Spring Fest is Friday night and SA is considering pulling out of Sub-Board I, Inc. Usually, when something of this magnitude is brought to the student body, it comes with both a means and an end.

Students Sound Off On Summer Fun in Buffalo

As temperatures rise, and parkas and snow boots are replaced by shorts, T-shirts and sandals, spring and summer activities in Buffalo are gearing up to begin full swing.Warm weather offers a variety of events and activities around Buffalo in late spring and throughout the summer.The Allentown Art Festival, held during the second full weekend in June, is something some art lovers in Western New York are looking forward to."It's an art festival in mid-summer, they usually just display art, people can walk around and look there's also food," said Shaun Harrington, a junior communication major, who attends many summer events in Buffalo.

Far-Left Presidential Hopeful Blasts Bush

Presidential candidate and economist Lyndon LaRouche broadcasted his controversial views live over the Internet Thursday afternoon to college students across the country.LaRouche, a Democrat who plans on running in his sixth presidential election in 2004, expressed his far-left political views and addressed policy on topics such as the war in Iraq, the economy, terrorism, college funding and the Middle-Eastern crisis.LaRouche made his disdain for the Bush administration crystal clear from the onset."The top of the presidency right now doesn't function," LaRouche said.

After Bill Bradley and his New York Knicks teammates lost two straight games to the Boston Celtics in the early 1970s, he received an urgent and threatening letter from a fan."Bradley, if you lose one more game to the Boston Celtics, I'm going to come to your house and kill your dog," the letter stated.

Students concerned about the proposed tuition hike could feel an ease to their wallets as early as next week.During Wednesday's Faculty Senate Executive Committee meeting, Paul Tokasz, majority leader of the New York State Assembly, announced the assembly is proposing a slightly lower tuition hike than the $1,200 hike proposed by Gov.

The Government: They're As Dumb As We All Thought

Right now, there are about a million reasons to hate the United States. Most of these reasons would involve the words "oil," "Iraq" and "Bush." But there is another reason to criticize our government: those ridiculous public service announcements against marijuana.I understand that it is the duty of our government to do everything it can to inform the public about any dangers, including narcotics.

SA Further Explains Possible Sub-Board I Withdrawal

In a letter released Tuesday afternoon to The Spectrum and addressed to members of the undergraduate population, this year's and next year's Student Association executive boards addressed the proposed withdrawal from Sub-Board I, Inc.The letter details the financial allocations SA and other governments give to Sub-Board and how the withdrawal would affect student services at UB.In an interview, Pape said nothing is final and the incoming e-board has not chosen a binding course of action."The only thing that's definite is that we're not going to be giving our activities money," said Pape.
