DiFranco's Judgement On Lated Release Is No 'Educated Guess'

It borders on hometown heresy for Buffalo natives to speak ill of Ani DiFranco.Having already partially revitalized the area with her locally based Righteous Babe record label - on which she has released 21 projects of her own as well as many other artists - DiFranco has been nothing but a shining light peaking through Buffalo's bleak reputation. So it is with an aire of extreme hesitancy that any DiFranco project is looked at in a negative light.

Stuck Bleachers Render Track Team Homeless

To the average fan at a UB basketball game, the south side bleachers -- Alumni Arena's student section -- appear to be in perfect working order. However, years of wear and tear have deteriorated the retractable bleachers to the point that they can no longer retract into the wall.Stuck in the out position, the bleachers cover Alumni Arena's indoor track, preventing the track and field team from practicing there during the winter season."These were the original bleachers that were built back in '82," said Paul Vecchio, the assistant athletic director for communications.

Lights Out for UB

Basketball is said to be a game of runs, a statement that surely applied to Saturday's contest between the UB men's basketball team and the Western Michigan Broncos.Sort of.While basketball may in fact be a game of runs, it was the Buffalo Bulls (5-7, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) who were basically run off the court and out of Alumni Arena in a thorough 84-54 whipping by a Western Michigan (9-1, 3-0 MAC) squad who has now won eight straight (six in a row on the road) and are ranked 14th in the Rating Percentage Index.

A Cornucopia of Sports Joy

It's kind of sobering to be back after such a holly, jolly and downright amazing holiday break. But nothing can pull me down from the high that I am on right now, not even the frigid weather or the professors who decide to teach on the first day of classes. That's probably the worst feeling in the world, sitting down for a class expecting to get out in 10 minutes and then getting dragged into an hour-long debacle.
