Muslim UB students are taking this week to break stereotypes. Muslim Student Association (MSA) is looking to unite the student body by celebrating Islamic Awareness Week. MSA is holding events every day this week to teach non-Muslim students about their culture

News briefs: What to know locally, nationally, globally

Professors will plead their cases for survival in the sixth annual Life Raft Debate on Feb. 15. The debate is sponsored by the Undergraduate Academies and the University Honors College. It will take place from 6-8 p.m in 107 Capen Hall. Six professors from six different departments will defend their academic fields.

UB students discuss sexual experiences while intoxicated

Amelia Jacobs* blacked out once while having sex and can’t remember if she was sexually assaulted. Three months later, the guy told her they had sex, but she explicitly remembers telling herself she wasn’t going to because she was on her period. She says she only wanted to kiss him. “I don’t like calling him a rapist if that is perchance what he is,” Jacobs said.

UB female student assaulted near Ellicott Complex

A UB female was "roughed up and assaulted" early this morning by two tall black males of medium built, according to a UB alert sent to the campus community at 3:25 a.m. The assault took place at Core Road, near the Ellicott Complex and the Millard Fillmore Academic Center. The alert said the incident was possibly an attempted sexual abuse.

News briefs: What to know locally, nationally and globally

Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed expanding UB’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences during his regional State of the State Address on Jan. 9 at UB. Cuomo spoke to roughly 1,800 invited guests in the Center for the Arts. He proposed allocating $20 million to the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to support the university’s plans to expand the medical school’s class size by its 25 percent goal, according to a UB news release.
