Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed expanding UB’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences during his regional State of the State Address on Jan. 9 at UB. Cuomo spoke to roughly 1,800 invited guests in the Center for the Arts. He proposed allocating $20 million to the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to support the university’s plans to expand the medical school’s class size by its 25 percent goal, according to a UB news release.

British comedian John Cleese is no stranger to silliness. Cleese presented his folly in the form of video clips to more than 1,000 people at the Center for the Arts on Friday.

The suspect appears to be a dark-haired male between 18-25 years old, last seen wearing a dark colored puffy jacket over a gray hoodie with black pants with a white stripe down the legs and Asics sneakers.

UPD investigators ask for help identifying burglary suspect

University Police are investigating a burglary and are asking for assistance in identifying a suspect. The subject is suspected for burglary in an administrative building.

University Police have been patrolling South Campus more since the stabbing on Dec. 1. Students living in the University Heights wish more Buffalo Police were patrolling the neighborhood.

A UB staff member reported racial slur graffiti in a men’s bathroom in Capen Hall on Nov. 22. University police immediately began investigating the crime and facilities removed the graffiti, according to UPD.

The School of Management was placed on Bloomberg Businessweek’s ranking of the nation’s best full-time MBA programs, ranking No. 47. The school ranks No. 22 among public universities. There are more than 16,000 business schools worldwide and UB’s School of Management is one of roughly 775 schools recognized by the AACSB International and the only school in the Buffalo Niagara region to be placed in Bloomberg’s ranking.

Two construction workers rescued at UB’s new medical school

Two construction workers were rescued Monday morning after a scaffolding issue at the new UB medical school. An equipment issue left the scaffold hanging “at a severe angle” from the eight-story building, according to The Buffalo News. The workers’ secondary harnesses activated and leveled them to the ground.

The petition written to President Satish Tripathi. English professor David Alff drafted the petition as a letter, urging Tripathi to declare UB a sanctuary campus with the help of other UB faculty members.
