The UB men's soccer struck early and never looked back as they defeated Colgate (0-1-0) in their season opener by a final of 3-0 at RAC Field on Wednesday night. The 2004 version of the Bulls looked nothing like the team that last year was shut out in the final seven games."All that work over the summer paid off," said Assistant coach Dave Hesch as he gave sophomore Erik Jaanimagi a congratulatory hug.Just a third of the way through the first half, Andrew Butler sent a long cross deep into Colgate's zone to set up Braden Byler for the first of his two goals, putting the Bulls on the board for the first time this year.Byler was active in only three games last year.
In the article "Activists Hit Asphalt to Oust Bush" in the Sept. 1 issue of The Spectrum, Duncan Stanley was improperly referred to as James Duncan.
In their season opener at Syracuse, the University at Buffalo's volleyball team couldn't dig, set, and spike their way to victory, falling to the Orange in three games. At the beginning, it didn't seem as though the Bulls were going to be able to keep the match close, losing the first game by 12 points, and the second by 10, but the they came back, and lost by only a five point deficit in the final game of the match.Tammy Jul?

Take a little veteran leadership, add some freshman attitude, and you've got the UB volleyball team. The Bulls hope to build on their momentum from last year, when they won their first road match in the Mid-American Conference, and five MAC matches in total, a program record.Last year, the team surpassed their kill total from the previous season and also managed to commit fewer errors while simultaneously winning more MAC contests, as well as more overall contests, than they did in previous years. Not only did those statistics improve, but several players were also recognized with individual honors.
With three-day weekend vacations, festive parades and holiday retail sales, it might be difficult to imagine why the "L" in Labor Day doesn't instead stand for "leisure." While some students might lament not celebrating in their hometown with family or - for New York City folks - gallivanting in Labor Day parades, kicking back in Western New York or her neighbor to the north, Canada, might be quite a consolation prize.Niagara-on-the-Lake, in Southern Ontario, is a trendy resort town on the banks of the scenic Niagara River.
With 28 additional channels added to campus cable this semester, UB students have 28 more reasons this fall to sit back with the remote and live it up as couch potatoes.Falls Earth Station, UB's programming provider, installed additional channels over the summer.
Many of you will probably know what I'm talking about when I use the term "LJ-cut." In fact, more students would probably be able to identify Frank the Goat in a line of suspects than Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. But if you don't happen to know the goat of which I speak and his mystical ability to take the young-adult nation by storm, I'm referring to the Web site Livejournal.com, a modern subculture unto itself. An online blogging community, Livejournal provides its users with a personal journal where they can broadcast their private thoughts and feelings on the Web to whomever they please.Other websites, such as blogger.com and diaryland.com also provide online journals, and many websites (deadjournal.com, ujournal.org) are spawns of the LJ phenomenon, but Livejournal rings truest both for its setup and originality. One of the great things about Livejournal is the extent of creativity it allows each user to express.
"It takes more than girls' jeans and a hip haircut to make music," Elliott Rothman said with a smirk.Sadly, this seems like the antithesis of a career musician's life.
A fourth quarter touchdown with 7:52 remaining in the game by Eastern Michigan's Chris Talley proved to be the deciding factor in the University at Buffalo's first MAC football game of the 2004 season, as EMU narrowly defeated UB 37-34 in what otherwise was a very even game between two comparable, though much improved football teams."This is a very disappointing result-not discouraging," said UB head coach Jim Hofher.
Bjork's new album, "Medulla," is as ambitious and beautiful as the artist herself, that is to say its charm lies in its peculiarity.

The heavily debated plans for development along Lee Road on North Campus have been put on hold, according to UB officials.President John Simpson was quick to say he has not entirely canceled the Lee Road project.
Social software has left the bounds of the World Wide Web and is headed for your cell phone.A company called Dodgeball has created a social networking program for mobile phones designed to help friends, and friends of friends, get together."When all of the dot-coms were failing, all of my friends were getting laid off and moving and we weren't hanging out as much as we used to," said Dennis Crowley, 28, a New York University graduate, one of Dodgeball's founders. They were using things like Citysearch, a basic city guide to coordinate their social gatherings, but weren't having much success."Citysearch was just a really lousy product, it still is a lousy product," he said.
