Once the UB Men's Basketball season came to an end, fans, teammates and coaches were forced to say goodbye to an influential and talented senior class.
As he began to "tussle" with a freshman girl on the floor of his dorm room Saturday night, sophomore political science major Herve Villechaize knew he was making history.Less than one minute later, it was official - Villechaize had become the first member of the UB College Republicans, since the group was founded 25 years ago, to get laid."Yeah!

The Student Association Election and Credentials committee has thrown out all the charges against Elevation '05 and will not consider new evidence of bribery from the Reform Our Campus party, according to SA officials.Committee chair Joe Varghese told The Spectrum late Friday the case has been closed despite the surfacing of a second audio-taped conversation in which treasurer-elect Mazin Kased offers delegate candidate Francisco Baiocchi the papacy and the position of SA godfather.Baiocchi also alleges that Kased tried to bribe him in an earlier conversation with SA jobs in turn for him dropping out of the race and turning on fellow party member Matthew Pelkey."We're going to take you into the family now," Kased says on the tape.
When Student Association treasurer-elect Mazin Kased offered an opposing SA delegate candidate any job he wanted, he was just looking out for the interests of his party.
Remember that booty from English class two semesters back, but just can't place the name? What about that butt from back in high school you've lost touch with?Students at UB are finding the solution to these dilemmas in the Assbook, the latest cyber-craze to hit college campuses.Building off the success of wildly popular Facebook, the Assbook aims to connect people - and their butts - in cyberspace.Students post profiles of their posterior, along with a listing of their interests and contact information.James Mixalot, who joined Assbook as soon as he heard about it, said it's a great opportunity for students to stay connected."There's more to a person than just the ass you see in the hall," said Mixalot.

For two semesters now, I've sat back and watched in horror. It was one thing to see the White House fall again to conservatives, but to see The Spectrum -- a student publication at a largely liberal university -- become a biased right-wing megaphone has been appalling.
Officials at Sweet Home High School, addressing the concerns of some parents, say they are not worried about the college student housing being erected directly across the street from the high school. At a meeting Friday night with angry parents from the school, Principal John Willis said he doesn't understand why the parents, mostly the fathers of female Sweet Home students, are concerned about the new complex."Why would high school girls want to hang out with college guys?" Willis asked.
Sometimes, as a critic, you are struck by the hand of something mightier than the normal artist. Sometimes a vocalist grabs you by the throat and demands your utmost attention, the fullness of your musical mind and more than the traditional two thumbs up.We're probably talking like eight to 13 thumbs up here. That artist is Nicholas Mendola, and that band is clearmotive.Combining absolutely mind-blowing riffage with the crooning of Otis Redding, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, and that guy from Shai Hulud, clearmotive has taken the music scene by a molasses storm in the last five years, moving from a band that no one in Western New York cared about to a band that no one in Western New York cared about that has toured to 37 states."I guess we're just like The Beatles in that we have really re-invented the musical wheel," said project mastermind Nicholas Mendola.

The University at Buffalo softball team (6-20 overall, 2-3 MAC) looked to continue its recent string of good pitching on Wednesday in a doubleheader against the Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-7 overall, 3-1 MAC).They did just that as they allowed only three runs in the first game, a 3-1 loss, but were able to roar back in the second game, winning a 9-0 mercy decision behind a complete game shutout by sophomore pitcher Sophie Barstad and a 4-for-4, five-RBI performance by senior slugger Ann Magur."Our pitchers have been tremendous all season.
The men's and women's track and field teams faced several top schools at last weekend's Raleigh Relays, held on the campus of North Carolina State. The Bulls claimed one first place spot, and achieved a handful of season bests at the relays, which the team attended at the end of their spring training trip."At such a large meet, the competition level is very high.
Lieder of the MACJosh Liederman, a senior on the men's tennis team, was named the Mid-American Conference men's tennis player of the week for his performance in the Bulls' victory over Toledo last weekend.Liederman defeated the Rockets' Travis Curran in a third set tiebreaker to ink the match for the Bulls, 4-3.This victory at the Village Glen Tennis Center was the first of five matches on the Bulls' home court, including two matches scheduled for this weekend.Tonight, the Bulls will face Ball State at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, the men are set to face Northern Illinois at 1 p.m.Academics afloatThe College Swim Coaches Association of America selected 52 division I men's swimming and diving programs as Academic All-American teams.UB's swimming and diving team rolled into a tie for 12th place with a 3.13 team GPA, which tied the Bulls with Xavier of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
