The waiting game is up

Three years have passed since Yellowcard's sophomore release "Ocean Avenue." For fans of the band, it will have been worth the wait.Their new release, "Lights and Sounds," is a beautiful album that explores everything the band has gone through on its way to success, from being an opening act to becoming a band listed on every pop-punk music lover's Facebook profile."Lights and Sounds" starts off with a soft instrumental piece with an orchestra section that recorded with the band.

As a political novice and outsider, Satish Mohan has already ruffled feathers within the current Amherst and Erie County power structures.In less than a month on the job as Amherst Town Supervisor, Mohan has challenged county tax breaks for big corporations and called for reduced overtime and a smaller workforce.

Wrestling ready to rumble at weekend quad-meet

With the Mid-American Conference tournament approaching quickly, the Buffalo wrestling team is looking to turn up the intensity another notch as they host a quad-meet this weekend.The Bulls will host MAC opponent Ohio and non-divisional opponents Delaware State and Ithaca on Saturday at Alumni Arena.The tri-meet will include several New York State champions, including three from Buffalo (5-3 overall, 0-1 in the MAC). Junior Mark Budd won his second straight title at 133 pounds and seniors Garret Hicks and Kyle Cerminara took home first at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively.

To meet the demands of the SUNY Board of Trustees, UB is taking a different route than most other SUNY schools to measure the quality of its general education programs.Unlike most SUNY schools, which will collect data every three years, UB has decided to assess its students each year over a three-year period.

Short-films not short-sighted

Most viewers wouldn't consider popping popcorn before watching a one-minute and 10-second video, but the brevity of Elka Krajewska's "70 Seconds" doesn't make this screening any less enjoyable.Krajewska is just one of 40 artists being showcased in Hallwall's annual "Resolutions" festival.

UB's rowdy fans characteristic of college ball

Fans provoking players at basketball games is a tradition. Recently, the NBA has had issues with athletes going into the stands to either defend themselves or their loved ones, something that could happen at any venue with a riled-up crowd.Even at Alumni Arena there have been situations where fan behavior breeched the line of acceptability, and John Grela, director of Public Safety, said there is a process to handle those circumstances."We try to give the people a warning," Grela said.

Stifling defense stops Bulls

Having built a strong reputation on the road this season, UB women's basketball started its home game Wednesday night with a surge of promise, opening a 7-1 lead in the first four minutes.
