For many years, potential pharmacy, architecture and nursing students have received acceptance letters to UB based on intended majors, yet were never sure if they would actually ever get those degrees.

Date Disaster

Watching the fat get sucked out of an character's butt and pumped into a container marked "mayo" doesn't exactly make for a romantic movie.The filmmakers of "Date Movie," Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, attempted to make a movie on which couples could compromise by combining raunchy with romance.In addition to cutting and pasting scenes from classic chick flicks, it also contains over 20 different movie references from contemporary cinema.

Officials discuss admissions reforms to improve classes for enrolled students

For students applying to UB for a selective program like architecture, nursing or pharmacy, reforms under discussion in the admissions process may better ensure that those accepted to the university end up in their desired fields.In the past, large numbers of students have been accepted into programs based on admissions rates rather than a set quota.

African Bazaar spreads the word

For a decade now, the African Bazaar has annually descended on the Student Union, each year searching for a different theme, a new way to present a familiar event.On Wednesday, students and clubs celebrated the 10th anniversary of the February bazaar focusing on the theme "Oral Traditions," giving participants the chance to share stories, proverbs, art and traditional African food with both each other and the UB community.The centerpiece event was the "Proverbial" Open Mic, where students had a chance to read an African proverb to passersby and those gathered for the bazaar."Suffering and happiness are twins," read one student, who was greeted by applause.

"Pfizer grant boosts funds for research, faculty"

Citing an industry-wide need for advanced drug research and qualified pharmacy graduates, Pfizer Inc. will be providing the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences with a five-year grant of up to $7.5 million.The grant -- $1.5 million per year for three years with a possible two-year extension -- will be used to fund research and development in the areas of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics by hiring new faculty, buying new equipment and allotting more slots for students to attend the school."The money's being used to grow the program," said Wayne Anderson, dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
