Opening weekend for MAC football

Boston College 31, Central Michigan 24CMU was able to cut Boston College's lead to within a touchdown twice but was unable to pull the upset against its Big East opponent.Junior quarterback Matt Ryan led the Golden Eagles to victory as he threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns.

Success not easily repeated

After a nearly perfect season, in which the Buffalo men's soccer team set a team record for consecutive wins starting the season 8-0, head coach John Astudillo is determined to have the team forget about the 2005 season and look towards the future."We're trying to avoid as much as possible talking about the '05 season, in order to build on '06 and concentrate on '06," Astudillo said.

Univ. officials respond to Heights homicide

In response to a Tuesday shooting death at the M&F University Grocery and Deli on Englewood Avenue and an overall increased trend of violent crimes in University Heights, campus officials are advising students to exercise extra caution in the neighborhoods around South Campus over the upcoming holiday weekend."Travel in groups (and) don't allow peer pressure or alcohol to put you in situations that increase risk," said Dennis Black, vice president for student affairs.In addition to asking students to be aware of possible threats to safety and security, University Police have increased the presence of uniformed officers on South Campus during overnight hours, according to UB Chief of Police Gerald Schoenle.

The freshman funk

College life is tough at any level, but life as a freshman can be even worse.Coming off the high of graduating from high school and a summer filled with night after night of graduation parties, suddenly living in a 10x12 foot room with a total stranger and having to forage meals from the dining hall can be a big adjustment.For sophomore undecided major Aaron Stopa, one of his first days as a freshman became especially memorable after waking up late and barreling into the elevator with a full cup of steaming hot coffee.
