A cornucopia in the Commons

Wednesday morning, with the crisp onset of fall in the air, vendors from all over the Western New York area filled their tables with fresh vegetables, home baked pies, sausages and jams in The Commons for what was to be the first of a weekly event.Small businesses from Batavia, Buffalo and Friendship were helping to kick off the new and highly anticipated Campus Farmer's Market, which will now be held every Wednesday from 10 a.m.

The freshman funk

College life is tough at any level, but life as a freshman can be even worse.Coming off the high of graduating from high school and a summer filled with night after night of graduation parties, suddenly living in a 10x12 foot room with a total stranger and having to forage meals from the dining hall can be a big adjustment.For sophomore undecided major Aaron Stopa, one of his first days as a freshman became especially memorable after waking up late and barreling into the elevator with a full cup of steaming hot coffee.

Volleyball splits weekend opening games

It was a bittersweet weekend for the Bulls' volleyball team. Buffalo opened up the 2006 season with losses against Charlotte and Davidson on Saturday, and won the next day against the North Carolina A&T Aggies, and the High Point Panthers.Buffalo lost both of its Saturday matches three sets to zero and lost its first match to Charlotte 30-24, 30-27 and 30-27.

Coming home for a shutout

In a weekend filled with rivalry, the Buffalo women's soccer team managed to bounce back from a season opening road loss to the Niagara Purple Eagles, coming up with a shutout on Sunday over southern rival St.

Deli owner killed in Univ. Heights

A clerk at University Grocery & Deli at the corner of Englewood Avenue and Eley Place was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon according to officials at the Buffalo Police Department.Two black men with a sawed-off shotgun entered the store around 3 p.m.
