Music IS relief

So take everything we've worked so hard for and lay it to rest. I lack the time to waste my emotions on someone who truly didn't care.

The Great Glass Ceiling

I was living in Oakland, California when we began mapping plans for a "Women's Safe Space." It was to be a community space run entirely by women; an environment in which sexual tension and gender-related power dynamics had been dissolved; we would feel empowered while teaching and learning from other women; we could freely relate to each other about the common roadblocks and pitfalls of being female in a male-dominated world. The rules were only this: while men were welcome in the space, women controlled the decision-making process.

"The SA vice president, on and off the job"

When Ashish Abraham took office as UB's new Student Association vice-president, the first thing he wanted to do was overhaul SA's "corrupt," wasteful and social elitist image.Starting with a fresh foundation and backed by a great supporting team, Abraham and his fellow elects sought to make this year's SA more caring and open to the students' needs on a club and academic level."This year SA will and should be held accountable for the promises and goals that were set up in the beginning of the year," Abraham said.As vice president, Abraham is first responsible for coordinating over 120 clubs and organizations, making sure that they follow all of the SA guidelines, including the required community-service projects that are mandatory for all SA clubs.According to Abraham, his responsibility also includes holding events that will engage a wide variety of students."It's important to me to create events that will engage not only the mainstream, but those who feel SA events aren't normally geared towards them," Abraham said.

Fest preemptively moved indoors

In a meeting held early Thursday morning, the Student Association executive board and Fall Fest administrators decided to hold the coming Fest indoors in Alumni Arena instead of at Baird Point, citing a possibility of rain and storms."We can't gamble with students' money," said SA President Peter Grollitsch, who explained that rain on the electrical equipment was the primary cause of concern. He added that the artists refuse to perform in the rain but would still be paid regardless.According to Grollitsch, the beer tent and carnival are currently still planned for setup in the Slee lot.The change separates the tent from the main floor of the performance, increasing difficulties with distributing alcohol."We don't let intoxicated people in.
