"Asia at Noon lectures discuss religious, civic life"

When there is no room to eat at Putnam's, pick up a brown bag and head over to 280 Park Hall for the Asia at Noon lecture series taking place at lunchtime, every other Friday this year.The brown-bag lunch lecture series was started by Thomas Burkman, Ph.D., a former director of the Asian Studies Program, and is heading into its tenth year."It is the primary forum for sharing Asian Research at UB," Burkman said.

A little bit about: John Martin

Trading in a suit and tie for a loose-fitting T-shirt and backwards cap, Student Association Treasurer John Martin gives off an air of approachableness, which he says is one key change from last year's SA."Our e-board is more accessible, that's different from last year," Martin said.When asked about how this year's SA will be different from last year's, Martin stayed tight-lipped and humble, mentioning a few changes he's made around the office.

UB scientist paves way to understanding Lou Gehrig's disease

In a groundbreaking scientific paper published in July, Troy Wood, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry at UB, and collaborators from around the country have elucidated some tantalizing clues concerning the underlying cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease.ALS affects populations from every part of the globe, including the United States.

Campus Dining and Shops loses their lunch

Whether you want to purchase some tasty nachos from Taco Bull or half a dozen chicken wings from Hubie's, it seems to be getting more difficult for students to get through a semester without spending extra money on food.Due to a lack of flexibility of meal plans, many find themselves seeking out cheaper sources of food elsewhere.For a busy student on campus, it can often seem like the dining halls open late and close early in the evening.Yet another predicament comes with lunch, which is apparently a non-existent entity at UB.
