UB basketball’s Jayvon Graves withdrew from the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday and will return for his senior season in 2020-21.
The NCAA concluded Tuesday that a former UB men’s basketball assistant coach violated NCAA unethical conduct bylaws last year when he “fraudulently created and submitted documentation for an NCAA waiver” to UB’s Athletics Compliance Office, according to a press release from UB Athletics.
In the first round of the MAC Tournament, the No. 12 seed Miami (OH) Red Hawks upset the No. 5 seed Bulls, 85-79. After the Bulls started the game up 8-0, the Red Hawks stormed back and took a 49-39 lead into the half, led by junior guard Nike Sibande’s 23 first-half points. Sibande ultimately earned 31 points, leading the Red Hawks past the Bulls.
Bowling Green, OH — UB men’s basketball (20-11, 11-7 MAC) defeated Bowling Green (21-10, 12-6 MAC) 88-84 Friday night at the Stroh Center during the last game of the regular season. Two of the top-four-ranked teams in the MAC battled as the 4-seeded Bulls got the best of the 2-seeded Falcons on their senior night.
UB men’s basketball (19-11, 10-7 MAC) defeated Miami(OH) (12-18, 5-12 MAC) 75-69 at Alumni Arena on senior night Tuesday. In honor of the occasion, head coach Jim Whitesell gave senior forward Gabe Grant the starting nod over sophomore forward Jeenathan Williams. Grant hit 2 3-pointers early in the game, proving he was worthy of the starting spot.
UB men’s basketball (18-11, 9-7 MAC) lost a hard-fought battle to the Akron Zips (22-7, 12-4 MAC) at Alumni Arena Saturday afternoon. The Bulls got off to a hot start, making their first four shots of the game and jumping out to a 10-2 lead.
UB men’s basketball (18-10) lost to MAC East foe Ohio (14-14) 80-69 at the Ohio University Convocation Center Tuesday evening.
UB men’s basketball (18-9) defeated conference opponent Kent State (17-10) in double overtime. Despite the Golden Flashes boasting a strong 11-2 record at home prior to the contest, junior guard Jayvon Graves and senior guard Davonta Jordan lead the team to victory. Graves scored a career-high 33 points, shot 50% from the field and a tremendous 70% from 3-point range to bring his team to a huge victory. Jordan also shot 50% from the field while scoring 20 points. Both Graves and Jordan hit huge shots for UB throughout the fourth quarter and overtime periods.
The UB men’s basketball team (17-9, 8-5) defeated MAC rival Ball State (14-12, 7-6) 72-59 at Alumni Arena Tuesday. This marked the third-straight win for the Bulls, who are now in third place in the MAC East. UB got off to a slow start, shooting 1-14 in the first seven minutes. But the Bulls managed to tie the game just before halftime and went into the tunnel knotted up at 29.
UB has had trouble hanging on to leads during its 2019-20 campaign. Despite the Bulls’ late-game struggles this season, they managed to hang on in a close one Friday. The men’s basketball team (15-9) got off to a great start at home where they defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas (13-9) 65-60.
UB men’s basketball (14-9) lost to MAC rival Eastern Michigan (12-10) 66-62 at the EMU Convocation Center Tuesday.
UB has struggled in close games this season. Friday's contest against Bowling Green proved no different.

When former men’s basketball coach Nate Oats left for Alabama in March, many were unsure about the future of the program. Fans didn’t know if UB would hire someone from outside the school. They didn’t know what impact Oats’ departure would have on the 32-4 team.
Buffalo has never seen a crowd like this one. The Bulls, in front of 6,688 fans, dazzled to the delight of the largest crowd they’ve had since Alumni Arena was redesigned. Buffalo (24-3, 12-2 Mid-American Conference) beat Kent State (19-8, 8-6 MAC) 80-57 on Friday night, their 24th-straight win at home, and clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming MAC tournament. The Bulls led the game in field goal percentage, assists and steals while only committing 10 turnovers.
March was an eventful month for UB Athletics. It saw the conclusion of two of the most historic basketball seasons in school history.
