The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that it will not be playing football this fall and will continue its plan to play fall sports in the spring.
The Bulls are one of 54 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams not playing football this fall. It’s an adjustment for not only the players and coaches, but the university as a whole.
Amid the postponement of fall sports and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, UB Football was able to put smiles on faces by revealing its new state-of-the-art locker room to players on Friday.
On Thursday, the UB running back was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation Preseason All-American Team.
On March 16, Matt Gildersleeve sent out a tweet asking for help. He was trying to launch an organization to fight COVID-19, and he was looking for coaches to partner with.
Twins Quillen and Jaillen Howze verbally committed to the UB football team early Wednesday. Quillen and Jaillen are 2021 three-star recruits and they both have one more year in high school, at Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township, MI.
The Edmonton Eskimos selected former UB left guard Tomas Jack-Kurdyla with the fourth pick in the 2020 CFL Draft Thursday night. Jack-Kurdyla was a four-year starter for the Bulls, coming from Vanier College in Montreal.
For the third straight year, current UB players were shut out of the 2020 NFL draft. Still, the Bulls had four players — two current and two former — land with NFL teams over the weekend. Three of them signed as undrafted free agents; one, former wide receiver K.J. Osborn, heard his name called in the fifth round.
The Bulls will enter the 2020 football season — if it takes place on time — with two of the top-10 returning edge rushers in the nation, according to Anthony Treash of ESPN. Using a combination of Pro Football Focus grades and PFF’s wins above average metric, Treash placed UB defensive ends Taylor Riggins and Malcolm Koonce on his list of elite returning edge rushers.
Jordan Avissey never expected to be here. Not in a stadium. Not on the gridiron. And certainly not here — illegally climbing a barbed-wire fence at midnight to work out at the local football field in his home country of France.
A second-quarter sequence during Saturday’s football game gave Buffalo the lead and the Bulls didn’t look back.
At age three, Alain Schaerer began playing soccer. At age four, he started playing tennis. And it wasn’t until he turned 16 that his friends introduced him to a different kind of football — American football.
The Bulls look to continue their four-game win streak this week at home against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Last week, the Bulls struggled to stop the Miami (OH) defense, but won their fourth-straight game by putting on an offensive show.
Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning's record for most passing yards in NFL history with 72,103 yards. He did so on Monday night with a masterful performance putting up 363 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last week we saw monster running back performances like Todd Gurley and his 3 TDs, Saquon Barkley showed his “generational talent” with 24.9 fantasy points and a leaping score. Players returning from injury and suspension also had good days as Joe Mixon, Mark Ingram II and Julian Edelman showed why they are instant starts going forward. Tight End continues to be the hardest to gauge position in the league as Eric Ebron exploded for 31 points while Jordan Reed had 21 yards in total.
Mark Ingram II and Julian Edelman return from their four-week suspensions and are immediately fantasy starts. Tom Brady has missed Edelman and the New England Patriots offense has struggled without him. The New Orleans Saints are relying heavily on Alvin Kamara but now with Ingram back they can return to the devastating running attack that led the league last season. Injuries have taken more tight ends this week as we see Tyler Eifert, Will Dissly and O.J. Howard all go down. Offense continued to reign supreme and it seems as if you can't score 30 points you will lose.
James O’Hagan’s favorite superhero is Captain America. The senior center has been a fan of comic books his whole life and fell in love with Captain America at age five. Almost 20 years later, you can find O’Hagan walking around UB wearing a Captain America ski mask during the winter.
The Bulls pulled off an incredible upset when they took down the Ohio Bobcats, 31-24 the day after Thanksgiving. The Bobcats were seven-point favorites and I didn’t think the Bulls had a chance against them. But they pulled out the win, collecting their sixth of the season. The Bulls are now in consideration for their first bowl appearance since 2013.
He sits with his fishing pole waiting on his big catch of the day. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees an alligator standing on the bank of the water.
UB, like almost all Division I football programs across the country, stays in local hotels before its home games, and did so before all seven home games during the 2014 season, resulting in a bill of $72,562.
