Three times in as many weeks the UB football team has rallied to come back from an early deficit. Three times denied. Clearly the Bulls are better off playing while ahead. Then again, who isn't?
Aaron Leeper's (58 yards on 14 carries) two fumbles hurt the grade, were uncharacteristic for the redshirt freshmen, and hurt the Bulls tremendously. The worst one came at the Western Michigan six-yard line after Mike Lambert's 87-yard interception return midway through the third quarter. Redshirt freshmen Dave Dawson was dynamic filling in for Leeper after the second fumble. Jennefer Brankovsky has come a long way to swim at UB, for which she recently set seven school records at the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. Four of these records - 200-yard butterfly, 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, and 200 freestyle - were set individually and three - 800 freestyle, 400 medley, and 200 freestyle were set as part of a relay.
The NCAA Tournament brackets came out Sunday night, with the field of 64 (with Siena defeating Alcorn State Wednesday) ready to Duke it out for the National Championship.
Anyone who has been involved in a young sports program knows the ups, the downs, and the bumps along the way to building a contender. The UB softball team, a young squad looking to finally make its mark in the MAC, is no exception.
