Women's Crew

University at Buffalo's women's crew squad started their fall season last Saturday in Pittsburgh at the Head of the Ohio Regatta.

The Bulls lightweight four (Sarah Wold, Karey Smollar, Victoria Kolomiets, Courtney Kane and Becky Mohr) made an impressive showing, with a second-place finish out of 18 teams and scored a silver medal.

"Competition was tough. It was our first regatta of the season, and we are happy to get off to a great start," said rower Karey Smollar.

Two UB varsity heavyweight eight boats entered the contest. UB's number-one boat placed seventh, while their number-two boat finished 16th out of the 31 teams who entered.

The next women's crew race is this Saturday, Oct. 13, at the fourth annual Head of the Niagara Regatta at the West Side Rowing Club.

This is the team's only local appearance for the remainder of the fall season.
