Coney named MAC Female Track Athlete of the Week

On Monday afternoon, the Mid-American Conference named senior Patrice Coney as its Female Track Athlete of the Week. This is the second time this season she has been honored with the title.

Coney earned the title following her record-setting performance at the Penn State National Invite, where many of the top collegiate programs throughout the United States were in attendance.

Coney scored a new school record in the Pentathlon, establishing herself as a NCAA provisional qualifier with her fourth place finish, scoring 3751 points. Coney performed well in the 55-meter hurdles squashing the school record with a time of 8.19 seconds. In the 800-meter dash, Coney placed first with a time of 2:20.93. She also placed second in the shot put with a personal best time of 11.34 meters, and third in the long jump with a leap of 5.40 meters.

Bishop and Bennett named UB Athletes of the Week

Sophomore Dan Bishop of the wrestling team and senior Stephanie Bennett of the women's basketball team have been named the UB Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Bishop earned the title after his play on Saturday versus Ohio. He scored a pin at 1:43 into the match against Ohio's Heath Allen to help the Bulls defeat the Bobcats, 24-9. Bishop, weighing at 125 pounds, is currently 12-14 in his matches this season. Bishop finished second in his weight class at the New York State Championships, and has won five of his last six bouts.

Bennett earned the title after her play on Saturday versus Eastern Michigan. In the game, she posted a career-high 25 points, including seven three-pointers. The seven three-pointers tied Bennett for second on the all-time single-game list. She is averaging a team-best 12.4 points per game, and has 50 assists for the season.
