Lizaiha Garcia selected in LVSF draft

Senior libero Lizaiha Garcia was selected as the 18th overall pick by Vaqueras de Bayamon in the 2008 LVSF (Professional Feminine Volleyball League of Puerto Rico) Draft. The coach of Vaqueras, Carlos Nunez, is also the head coach of the Puerto Rican Women's National Volleyball Team. Garcia is the only player picked in the 2008 draft that is currently starting. She will be starting as libero for Vaqueras. Garcia's parents are natives of Puerto Rico.

In her tenure at Buffalo, Garcia played in a total of 448 games. She holds school records for career digs with 1884, career digs per game with an average of 4.278, the single season digs record with 545, and the record for single season digs per game with an average of 4.658. She is the first player in Buffalo volleyball history to play volleyball at the professional level.

Garcia is currently ranked fifth in the league at the libero spot.

MAC women's swim championships to be held at Buffalo

This week, the University at Buffalo will host the 2008 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The event will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and end on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The Bulls, along with MAC schools ranging from Akron to Toledo will be looking to take the top spot at the annual meet. This is the second time the event is being held at Buffalo since the 2001 season.

Buffalo looks to take several events behind the play of sophomores Andrea Lehner and Meili Carpenter, while two-time defending champion Eastern Michigan hopes to suck the life out of the Bulls.

Individual session tickets and an all-session pass are available for those who wish to attend the meet. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for students per session. For those who wish to attend the entire event, all-session passes are available, which cost $25 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $10 for students.

Competition will begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. with the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle races. For those who cannot attend, the meet will be streamed live on the web at http://www.buffalobulls.com.

Hill named MAC female field athlete of the week

On Monday afternoon, junior Fatimah Hill was honored with the MAC Female Field Athlete of the Week award.

Hill earned the award after setting a school record in the long jump at the New Balance Collegiate Meet. She won the College Division with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6.18m. Hill's distance was also a school record, shattering the 2007s record of 5.89m.

The Bulls are resting until Friday, Feb. 22 when they will compete in the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio.
