As you know, the School of Management recently made a painful decision to suspend business minor programs as our major continues to experience unprecedented growth. The School has always believed and continues to believe that taking management courses can be a valuable educational experience for non-majors, despite the decision to suspend the minor programs.
Although the School cannot guarantee admission to minor programs, we have decided to accept minor applications for fall 2007 by the June 15, 2007 application deadline for any student completing his/her sophomore year this May, provided that the student will have all of the minor prerequisite courses completed by the time spring 2007 grades post in late May. Of course, an application submitted does not ensure admission. The first consideration for admission has always been and will continue to be whether or not there is space available in the required courses. If there is space available and the student has the minimum time necessary to complete our required minor courses (four semesters or three semesters and a summer), we will then look at the most qualified applicants based upon the UB GPA and the grades in the prerequisite courses.
It is important to be clear that admission to our minor programs has always been very competitive. Students should not be planning to take any business minor prerequisite courses over the summer in anticipation of an application review at the end of summer. We will also take applications next academic year by the December 15, 2007 and June 15, 2008 application deadlines after which time the minor programs will be suspended.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
