'Wailing Wanderers'

Current: "The Brown Bunny" (2003)

Vincent Gallo plays Bud Clay, a motorcycle racer who takes to the open road in a trip across country. Haunted by flashbacks of a past love, Bud searches the depths of his tragic dementia on his road trip to nowhere. Bud's voyage though the wormholes of his war-torn psyche depicts an inner-anguish and an emotional burden never before seen on screen. Presented with agonizingly slow camera movement and a screenplay written with almost no dialogue, Gallo accentuates Bud's sadness through subtle expressions and gestures.

Classic: "Vertigo" (1958)

Hitchcock's psychological thriller and cinematic gem is as complex as neurological science. James Stewart plays John Ferguson who describes his occupation as a "wanderer." Ferguson's wandering ways reveal a subconscious psychological excursion through dark, twisted alleyways of his tragic past. By highlighting a dark corner of Ferguson's mental labyrinth, Hitchcock brings us closer to understanding the psychological underpinnings of the human condition as a whole.
