Budd and Carpenter named Athletes of the Week

Mark Budd and Meili Carpenter were named Athletes of the Week.

Budd, a leading member of Buffalo's wrestling team, won the Mid-American Conference title for the second time in as many years. Budd also qualified for a spot in the NCAA Championships in the 133-pound weight class, which will be held March 15-17 in Detroit, Mich.

Carpenter is a diver on the women's swimming and diving team and placed fourth among 33 divers in the one-meter event. She also placed third out of five in the platform competition at the NCAA Zone A Championships.


Shi honored as Academic All-MAC

Sophomore Richard Shi of the men's swimming and diving team was named to the 2007 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. He is a biomedical pharmacology major and has a 3.70 grade point average.

Shi helped led the Bulls to a fourth-place finish at the MAC Championships last month. He was able to post a lifetime-best in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45:92 and helped lead Buffalo in the relays with season-best times in the 400-yard relay in 3:10:43 and in the 800-yard relay in 6:50:56.


Idbihi named MAC East Division Player of the Week

Senior forward Yassin Idbihi has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the East Division. Over the course of the last week, Idbihi has averaged 20.5 points and 10 rebounds.

This is the second time Idbihi has received the award this year, as he also won the award on Dec. 4. For the year, he leads the conference in rebounding and is third in scoring.


Football team to hold pro day

Buffalo will hold a pro day on March 7 at 8:30 a.m. for professional scouts to workout senior football players. The event will be held at the North Amherst Recreation Center.

Head coach Turner Gill and his staffs have organized the event for scouts to evaluate senior players such as tight end Chad Upshaw and linebacker Ramon Guzman. Upshaw was recently worked out at the National Football League Combine as part of the evaluation process for NFL Draft.
