Heath Ledger found dead in Manhattan apartment

Heathcliff Andrew Ledger, star of the forthcoming Batman sequel The Dark Knight was found nude in his New York City apartment lying facedown at the foot of his bed. His body was uncovered by a housekeeper and masseuse with whom he had scheduled an appointment.

The location of his death was confirmed to be his own apartment, refuting initial rumors that the actor was found in the apartment of socialite Mary-Kate Olsen.

A collection of pills was found next to his body. Though exact names have not been disclosed, the NYPD did state that many of the pills were prescribed to Ledger for sleeping. The cause of death is believed to be a drug overdose.

In a New York Times article published in November 2007, Ledger was quoted saying that he experienced sleeping problems while filming movies, so he took Ambien, a sleep aid, during production of the Batman sequel. He also told the New York Times that he tried taking one pill, but it didn't work, so he took another pill and an hour later, woke up and found himself in a "stupor."

Though no criminality is suspected, Ledger's death can only be described as a mystery. A young, strapping actor with an up and coming resume and limitless potential seemingly had the world at his hands. Assumptions as to what actually happened are rampant.

An NYPD representative stated that there was no suicide note, nor any indicators of foul play.

Ledger was believed to be battling a bout with pneumonia and his family has outright denied the possibility of suicide.

Neighbor Gustavo Meideiros declined to comment out of respect for the Ledger family.
