Both Buffalo swimming squads fall to Bobcats


Neither Bulls' swim teams were able to beat the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday. The men's swimming team dropped a close meet to the Bobcats, 124-117.

The loss dropped the Bulls' record to (3-1,1-1 MAC), while Ohio improved to (4-1, 1-1 MAC). Freshman diver Michael McDowell paced the Bulls with two wins, capturing both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

The Bulls also came away with the top three finishers in the 200-meter backstroke event, as freshman Andrew Tamchyna was victorious with a time of 1:54:98. Sophomore Zach Ruske finished just behind him at 1:55:22, and sophomore Richard Shi rounded out the triumphant trio with a time of 1:57:23.

The team will next be in action against reigning Mid-American Conference champion Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 19.

In its contest with the Bobcats, the women's team lost by a 140-91 decision. With the loss Buffalo remained stuck on two wins, and their overall record moved to (2-5, 0-5 MAC.) The victory improved the Bobcats' record to (7-1, 4-1 MAC).

Freshman Samantha Palma recorded a pair of second place finishes with a time of 24:73 in the 50-yard freestyle and 54:15 in the 100-yard freestyle. Senior Kahla Walkinshaw captured a second-place finish of her own as she finished the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.96. In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Meghan Lafferty's 54.64 was good enough for third.

The women's squad will next face another MAC foe when it travels to Bowling Green on Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
