The State University of New York Board of Trustees has given John B. Simpson, Ph.D., the final stamp of approval to serve as UBOs 14th president, according to a UB News Services press release.

Simpson was endorsed unanimously by the Board of Trustees on Oct. 28, culminating a lengthy search process begun when President William R. Greiner announced his resignation plans last January. Simpson is set to take office Jan 1, 2004.

He hails from the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he currently serves as provost and executive vice chancellor. SUNY Chancellor Robert L. King introduced Simpson to the UB public on Oct. 17.
