Betts to declare for NBA draft
Calvin Betts, 6-foot 4-inch would be sophomore has decided to forego the remainder of his Buffalo career and make himself eligible for this year's NBA Draft in June.
The Rochester native's stock has risen after his successful freshmen year in which he scored just under four points a game, pulled down 2.5 rebounds and had less than one assist. Betts, who is already built for NBA action at 225 pounds, has been working with teams such as the Memphis Grizzles and the Portland Trailblazers.
"I know I got the skills that any NBA team would want," Betts said. "I know I am better than Tyler Hansbrough and he should be picked mad high, so I figure why not. Plus I already snagged that H2."
Gill loses on "Deal or no Deal"
Buffalo Bulls head football coach Turner Gill fell short of coming away with a handsome check of $250,000 on last Monday's taping of "Deal or no Deal."
Gill had only two boxes left, the No. 12 and 2, the number Gill wore while at Nebraska and the number of wins the Bulls chalked up this year. Gill passed on the banker's offer of $250,000 after listening to the advice of Frank Solich, head coach of the Ohio Bobcats.
When Gill was asked why he listened to his former mentor and now rival conference-coach, Gill said, "I have no idea, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night."
Gill walked away with .01 cents
Atman named in HGH investigation
The Buffalo basketball team received more bad news this past week as junior forward Andrew Atman has been accused of using human growth hormones, better known as HGH. Atman's high athletic performance brought speculation to NCAA officials and promoted an investigation.
"Tuner Battle was a tremendous player and he will be missed," said Buffalo basketball head coach Reggie Witherspoon. "Who is Andrew Atman?"
