What is wrong with Pappe's argument?

To the editor,
Professor Steinfeld's letter last Friday labeled the recent lecturer Ilan Pappe as an "extreme Israeli activist". But Steinfeld didn't say why Pappe would be in error and didn't even report on anything Pappe said in the lecture. I went to the lecture, not knowing of Pappe before the announcement of his lecture went out. He made a ten-point argument concluding that Israel is the last colonial regime in the world today. If his argument is wrong, in what respects is it wrong?
The only thing Steinfeld hints at is the charge that Pappe "takes a Marxist position in opposition to nationalism". But Pappe never mentioned Marx nor even hinted at him. Furthermore, what is to be the supposed Marxist position and what would be wrong with it?
Perhaps Steinfeld is thinking that Pappe argues for a civil, single-state solution to the Israeli/Palestine issue - rather than a two-state solution - presumably to be inclusive of all land west of Jordan. Actually, this is an American concept, for diversity and a secular state have been calling-cards for this country.
