Schneider named MAC East Player of the Week
Junior infielder Lacy Schneider of the women's softball team garnered the Mid-American Conference East division player of the week honors.
Schneider batted .500 for the opening weekend of MAC play. In a pair of double-headers against Bowling Green Falcons and Toledo Rockets she went 6-12, driving in four runs. She highlighted the weekend with her fourth homerun of the year against the Falcons.
On top of the accolades from the MAC, the University at Buffalo Athletics Department also named Schneider an Athlete of the Week for her achievements.
Folli named Athlete of the Week
Junior shortstop Mike Folli of the baseball team was named Athlete of the Week. Folli batted .478 over a five game stretch. As well as going 11 for 23 he also stole a base and crossed the plate five times. He was also a defensive backbone for the team with 15 infield assists.
Toledo football exposed in gambling scheme
Harvey 'Scooter' McDougle Jr., a senior member of the Toledo Rockets football team, was charged in connection with a federal investigation of illegal gaming activities in a report from the Associated Press. According to the report McDougle had admitted to taking cash, a car and a cell phone for his involvement in a point shaving scheme.
McDougle was charged with recruiting other football players and basketball players to alter their performance and the outcome of games. The complaint said that one player was even offered $10,000 to sit out a football game.
It is unknown at the time what legal ramifications may arise for Toledo at the time. McDougle however faces the possibility of up to five years in jail.
