Grapplers face No. 23 Fighting Scots

The UB wrestling team will travel to the Erie Civic Center on Friday to battle with the nationally ranked Edinboro Fighting Scots. The Scots boast five top-20 wrestlers including the No. 1 Shaun Bunch. Bunch finished second in the NCAA tournament last year at 133 pounds and is looking for the top spot this season.

UB's 18th-ranked Mark Budd will be stepping on the mat against Bunch for the fourth time in his career. Budd faced Bunch three times last season and held his own in each match, losing by no more than four points.

In addition to the Budd-Bunch match-up, UB's 27th-ranked Mickey Moran will face the 15th-ranked Deonte Penn at 165 pounds and UB's 27th-ranked Garret Hicks will face the 12th-ranked Alex Clemsen at 184 pounds.


Softball announce recruits for 2007

Head coach Marie Curran announced the signing of three recruits on Wednesday. Sharon Barr, Kristen Gallinpani and Katie Ivancich have all signed letters of intent for the 2007 season.

Barr is a pitcher from Yosemite High School where she is a three-time MVP. Gallinpani, a shortstop, led her Brewster High School team with four home runs, while scoring 31 runs and tallying 32 stolen bases. Ivancich has served as a pitcher and utility player for her Merriville High School team.

Ivancich was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Academic All-State honoree.
