"Dalai Lama coming to share philosophy, not force religion"

Letter to the Editor

I can't believe that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, both spiritual as well as political leader of six million Tibetans inside and outside Tibet, is going to be among us for three days. I consider myself very fortunate and believe that I must have done some very good deeds in my past life that I now get these great opportunities like going to receive His Holiness at the airport and have a picture with His Holiness during the "Law, Buddhism and Social Change," conference in the Law Library on the 20th.

I would like to say one very important thing to all the students and local people; His Holiness is not here to convert people to Buddhism, he is here to convey a very simple message of peace, harmony, non-violence and most importantly to share his views about how to become compassionate and better human being.

I really very happy to see that how His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's three-day visit to the University at Buffalo brings both the university and local communities together to work for a common goal. The main focus of this visit is to bring students and people of all faiths to reflect on the meaning and promotion of peace in your life, in your community and in the world at large.

On Behalf of the GSA-Tibetan Graduate Student Association, I would like to take this great opportunity to express our gratitude to President Simpson, Dr. Stephen Dunnett, John Wood, Rebecca R. French, Laura Mangan, Martin McGee, Dennis Hohman, Donna De Yot and all the people who has contributed in making His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's visit possible. I am sure that their hard work, their dedication and all their endless efforts will make this occasion a historic and memorial event in UB's entire history.
