Women's basketball program signs 2

The women's basketball team announced the additions of Abby Dowd and Nytor Longar to their 2009-10 roster on Tuesday.

Dowd comes in as a 5-foot-9 point guard from Tipp City, Ohio, where, in her senior year of high school, she averaged 14.3 points, six rebounds, 4.6 assist and 4.1 steals. There, she also shot 56 percent from the field, including 51.3 percent from the 3-point line.

Longar, a 6-foot-3 forward from Rochester, Minn. also had an impressive senior campaign in high school. She averaged 13.6 points, 10 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.

In her four years, she totaled 940 points, 791 rebounds and 228 block shots.

Smith earns weekly honor

On Thursday, the Mid-American Conference named junior sprinter Brian Smith a MAC Track Athlete of the Week after his performance last Saturday at the UB Invitational.

Smith's time of 21.13 in the 200-meter broke the school record by .16 seconds.

He was also a major contributor in Buffalo's two relay victories, in which he ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter races.


Fedotov named to All-MAC team

Senior forward Vadim Fedotov of the men's basketball team joins Bull standouts Turner Battle and Mark Bortz as one of three Buffalo players to be named to the Academic All-MAC Team.

Fedotov will graduate in May with a degree in business administration. He currently holds a 3.56 GPA.
