Weekend studiers at the Capen Library who start to run low on energy can fuel up at the Capen Caf?(c) thanks to its new hours on Saturday and Sunday.
The Caf?(c), located in the basement of Capen Hall, will now be open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Weekday hours have been extended as well: Mondays and Wednesdays the caf?(c) is open a half hour longer, closing at 7 p.m. Fridays, the Caf?(c) is open until 5 p.m.
"As we were closing down, we were having to turn people away," said Derek Welle, the general manager of Bert's and Capen Caf?(c). "By lengthening it, we are trying to make sure we meet the needs of customers there in the later hours."
The changes went into effect at the beginning of this semester. The caf?(c) serves sandwiches, fresh pizza, snacks and beverages to passersby in the Academic Spine.
"It seems like a good idea," said Chris Forstall, a graduate student in Classics. "Everything should be open as much as possible so people have something to do."
Students studying in the library or attending night classes can take advantage of the new hours.
"There were times in the past when I walked by and thought it would have been nice if it was open," said Brianna Nabal, a senior psychology major.
