Softball waits

UB's softball team was forced to postpone Wednesday's doubleheader at Nan Harvey Field against Canisius College because of field conditions after the inclement weekend weather.

The Bulls rescheduled the games for Monday. They will be played at 3 p.m. on Nan Harvey Field.

The Bulls' first home games of the year will now be Saturday, when they play a doubleheader against Akron. UB will play a single game against the Rockets on Sunday.

First pitch for both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Faith in top form

Faith Thompson has been named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the fourth time during this indoor and outdoor track and field season.

Thompson, a senior psychology major, has been able to maintain a 3.973 GPA while attending UB. She has set records this year in the hammer throw and the shot put. This year, her distance of 186-0 (56.7m) on April 2 not only broke the stadium record in that event, but also qualified her for the NCAA regional competition.

In addition to her performance in the hammer throw, her shot put distance of 47 5-1/4 (14.46m) was a record-breaking distance, as well as a qualifying mark for the NCAA regional competition.
