'Medicated generation' on target

I'm writing in response to the article "The Medicated generation." (Oct. 20) It's about time someone brought this issue into focus (the issue being the depressed state of our generation). Our generation does have a problem, and to expand a little further on what Mr. IIgunas said, we are heading down a wrong road, a road where the easy way out takes the place of the right way, which more often than not involves self-sacrifice, discipline, and self-control. The problem is, very few people want to actually face their fears or confront their problems head on to get rid of them and improve their lives.

I'm a victim of this society as well, I must admit. I was taking anti-depressents for about five years as I tried to cope with my parents divorce and a lot of family problems. Last April as I was in Florida on vacation with my church youth group, I was opening my Effexor bottle for my morning fix and I stopped suddenly and was like you know what? These things aren't helping me, if I want to get over this, I have to do it, and not rely on some pill to mask my pain for a while.

I made the desicion that I didn't want to have to take a pill to keep me stable all day. Cause it left me unfulfilled after the effects wore off. I suggest that our generation watches The Passion of The Christ if they haven't done so yet and if they already have, that they facebook me and go to church with me sometime. If this generation wants to turn itself around and get on the right track, some soul searching will need to start up really soon. This pattern of drugs, alcohol and sex isn't getting us anywhere and will get worse through time. The choice to change and the method used to change is up to us. Choose well.
