SA announces dates for Spring Fest and next year’s International Fiesta

Plans are in the works to incorporate data from student interest polls

Spring Fest is scheduled for May 4.

The undergraduate Student Association (SA) has booked two artists and is seeking a third to perform at this year’s Spring Fest, which will be held on May 4, SA President Becky Paul-Odionhin announced at a town hall-style meeting last week.

Paul-Odionhin also set a tentative date — Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025 — for next year’s International Fiesta. She says that while the earlier date will make preparations for the event more difficult, she hopes announcing the date nearly a year in advance will give clubs enough time to make plans.

Paul-Odionhin says that SA plans to incorporate different genres, such as EDM or Caribbean, in a greater number of smaller-scale in future Fest concerts, in the style of the three-part 2022 Spring Fest series. She says SA polls consistently show a desire for more genres, but the current Fest format means SA always chooses artists in the top genre.

A multipart Spring Fest series has been floated by the KhaBhuya! party currently running for SA e-board. That ticket includes current SA production director Samin Bhuya and current SA chief of staff Killian Hannigan.

“It’s just not feasible to do so many concerts with the same scale as a typical fest,” Paul-Odionhin said.

Paul-Odionhin declined to speak with The Spectrum at the town hall.
