UPD said in a statement that it has “made significant progress in identifying individuals involved” in a fatal stabbing that took place outside of the Ellicott complex Friday evening.
Police declined to disclose any further information about the individuals involved. It remains unclear what that “progress” entails or if police have identified the names of any of the four individuals who they said “may have been involved.”
“All evidence in our comprehensive investigation continues to indicate that this was not a random act of violence on our campus, but rather an isolated incident among known individuals,” UB Police Chief Chris Bartolomei said. “Although we are unable to share additional details about our investigation or the individuals involved in the altercation at this time, I am confident in stating that there is no ongoing danger to the university community.”
UPD also announced that it will continue its “heightened patrol presence around North Campus residence halls” into the weekend.
The victim was identified Saturday as Tyler Lewis, a Buffalo State College student from Baldwin, NY. He was a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in pre-business administration.
Police had previously described one of the “persons of interest” in the case as a 19- to 22-year-old white male wearing a blood-stained, “mustard-colored shirt,” with multiple cuts on his face, including a “large diagonal laceration” on his forehead. He left the area driving a black four-door sedan.
