UB’s Student Association will open petitions for e-board positions on Monday, SA President Nick Singh announced at an SA Senate meeting this week.
Any current undergraduate student who garners at least 30 student signatures before the petitions close on March 7 will appear on the ballot. The election will take place from March 28 to April 1, Singh said Monday.
“It’s that time of year: when the election is happening,” Singh said as he formally announced the election. “It’s time for somebody to take these beautiful three seats that we [the current e-board] all sit in.”
Singh also announced minor changes to the SA election process. Each of the SA’s seven councils — the Academic Council, Engineering Council, Hobby Council, International Council, People of Color Council, Special Interest Council and Sports Council — will be able to nominate a candidate. The SA will also hold a town hall event where students can ask candidates questions during the week of March 14.
Students can create and sign petitions on the SA’s website.
The elections come as the SA Senate seeks to fill six vacancies of its own following last semester’s SA Senate election in which four candidates ran for 12 vacant seats.
SA Senate Chair Tyler Herman asked current senators Monday to nominate students to fill those vacancies, but interested undergraduate students can nominate themselves by emailing Herman. All nominees will be subject to a confirmation vote by the SA Senate.
Singh and Austin Wolfgang ran uncontested in races for president and treasurer in last year’s e-board elections, even after the SA extended the petition deadline.
SA e-board members receive annual stipends of $15,750.
Singh didn’t mention if candidates will have the option of forming parties, or if they will run alone, as they did in 2021.
