Amherst Police took a larceny suspect into custody near UB’s north campus Monday.
At 12:08 p.m., UB sent out an alert over its emergency-notification system urging students to stay away from North Forest Road, as Amherst Police searched for a larceny suspect who was last seen “on foot” near north campus.
At 12:35 p.m., UB sent out another campus-wide alert, confirming that police had the suspect in custody and that the area is “considered safe.”
UB Deputy Chief of Police for Administration Josh Sticht said that the suspect was apprehended before coming onto campus.
“The suspect was being pursued by the Amherst Police,” Sticht said. “They requested our assistance with a perimeter after the suspect fled near the intersection of Millersport Highway and North Forest Road (just north of the Ellicott Complex). We sent out the alert out of an abundance of caution.”
This is a developing story.
