UB grad student killed in pedestrian accident

Student hit by car near Sweet Home and Chestnut Ridge intersection

UB grad student Angel R. McNight-Miller was hit by a car before 12:30 Thursday morning and died at the scene.

Rocco A. Strangio, an 18-year-old UB student, hit McNight-Miller, 23, as she crossed the Sweet Home Road and Chestnut Ridge Road intersection, according to WGRZ. Officials say Strangio is "fully cooperating with the investigation" and do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

McNight-Miller was a graduate student in the School of Social Work at UB.

"The UB community is very saddened by today’s tragic news," said UB Spokesperson John Della Contrada. "Our student response team is in contact with Angel’s family and is providing support and assistance. We are also offering on-campus counseling services to Angel’s friends and classmates during this very difficult time."

Amherst Police are asking people with information to contact them at 716-689-1311.
