UB Furnas Hall evacuated after possible chemical leak

Furnas hall was evacuated on Sunday around 6:40 p.m. after students reported a “noxious odor” coming from a lab on the building’s fifth floor, according to UB Spokesperson John Della Contrada. The evacuation was due to a possible methane leak, according to a UB Alert that was sent to the UB community at 7:50 p.m.

Hazmat crews conducted two sweeps of the building and did not find any odors or gases. The building was declared safe in a second UB Alert and no injuries were reported. The building will remain closed until further notice.
