UB's "True Blue Days", which are being held today and Saturday, offer a number of opportunities for students to show their school spirit.
Comedian Augusten Burroughs will be performing Friday night in the Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. His bestselling book, "Running with Scissors," spent more than four years on the New York Times bestseller list, and it was made into a movie and nominated for an Oscar. Tickets are $26 for general admission or $20 with a student ID.
The True Blue tailgate party on Saturday will be held before the homecoming football game from 9 a.m. until noon in the Special Events parking lot. UB's marching band, Thunder of the East, and the UB Dazzlers will escort the football team into the stadium at 9:40 a.m.
There will be a bounce house, an obstacle course, a football toss, a beanbag toss, face painting and games at the tailgate. Additionally, $2 hot dogs, soft pretzels, popcorn, and bagels with cream cheese will be sold. The first 100 fans to arrive will receive a complimentary breakfast sandwich and coffee.
The main event, the homecoming football game against Temple, will begin at noon on Saturday at UB Stadium.
"This is [the game] where no matter where you're from, however far away you are from the school… you want to come back for," said Paul Hutchings, the manager of university awareness and special events. "[Homecoming is] the reason to come back to school… you bring all your friends together."
There are also other events occurring during the True Blue days. A "Golden Days of Artpark" exhibit in the UB Art Gallery will be open until 7:30 p.m. Friday night. The Zodiaque Dance Company will perform at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
