UB students croozin' for an oozin'

The University Student Alumni Board (USAB) will host "Croozin for an Oozin," the 24th Annual Oozfest on Saturday, April 26 at the Mud Pit on North Campus.

In addition to slipping and sliding in some mud volleyball, this all-day event will include food, music, and contests with prizes. The fee is $150 per team.

"My friends and I wanted to do something fun together before we all graduate and move on into the real world, and we figured this would be the perfect event," said Meghan Swane, a senior nursing major.

The USAB seeks to encourage lifelong student and alumni participation in the university by involving students in traditional programs and spirit activities that promote UB pride while they are undergraduates.

Registration forms and payment must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Forms can be handed in at the table in the Student Union lobby on April 7-11 or 14-18, or in the Center for Tomorrow by mail or in person on Friday. Visit the USAB Web site www.alumni.buffalo.edu/usab/oozfest.php for registration forms.

Oozfest is one of the largest collegiate mud volleyball tournaments in the US, with more than 1,000 players and volunteers expected at the event. The teams and volunteers consist of UB students and alumni, as well as members of the Buffalo community.

Each team, which will have between six and eight players, will be guaranteed at least two games of mud volleyball, along with breakfast, lunch, a team photo, a T-shirt, and a bag of goodies from Oozfest sponsors. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration will be limited to 128 teams.

Students interested in participating should register early to guarantee their spot.

"We had an extra 60 people on a waiting list last year," said Patty Starr, assistant director for special projects in Alumni Relations.
