Men's swimming and diving announces awards

Head Coach Andy Bashor announced the Buffalo men's swimming and diving team awards on Thursday.

Freshman Clayton Sutton was awarded the top newcomer award. Sutton finished his season finishing seventh on the three-meter board and eighth in the one-meter competition at the MAC/Sun Belt Championships.

Sophomore Scott Woster earned the Most Improved Player award. He was a Second Team All-MAC selection in 2008. Woster also set a school record in the 200-yard butterfly at the MAC/Sun Belt Championships.

Sophomore Michael McDowell won the Coaches' Award, which is given to the student who best exemplifies the team virtues. McDowell was named to the Collegeswimming.com First Team All-America squad. Along with being a Second Team All-MAC, McDowell competed at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. He was named MAC Swimmer of the Week three times.

Junior Zach Ruske was named Most Outstanding Swimmer for the second straight year. Ruske earned First Team All-MAC honors while winning three individual events for the Bulls at the 2008 league championships. He set numerous swimming records throughout the course of the year.

The Bulls finished the season with a 3-4 record overall, with a 1-2 record in MAC competition.
