Gill Passed Over for Nebraska Job

Former LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini has been named the Nebraska Cornhusker's new head coach, though Bulls coach Turner Gill was thought to be a top candidate for the job. According to numerous reports, Gill is still a candidate for the Washington State head coaching position.

Five Wrestlers Earn Victories at Las Vegas Invitational

The Buffalo wrestling team finished 43 out of 50 teams at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Senior Dana Gingerich, senior John Cummings and senior Mike Ragusa each earned multiple wins at the tournament. In the 149-pound weight class, Gingerich won his first match by pinning his opponent in 46 seconds. In the next round, he won 13-3, but lost in the third round. In the 157-pound class, Cummings barely won his first match by a score of 3-2. Cummings also won in the second round by a score of 7-1. Ragusa lost his first match to the top wrestler in Division II. He would fight back and win his next two matches by scores of 2-1 and 5-2.

Scott Selected to Play in Texas vs. the Nation Challenge

Senior defensive end Trevor Scott was invited to play in the second annual Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Challenge. The game will be played on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX. Scott is the first Buffalo player to be invited to the game. Scott led the Bulls with 10 sacks and was second on the team with 15 tackles for loss. He fell one half of a sack shy of finishing first in the Mid-American Conference. In two seasons at defensive end, Scott has totaled 19 sacks, the third highest total in school history. Scott will be joined by senior center Jamey Richard in the game.

Athletes of the Week

Heather Turner was selected as the female athlete of the week. Turner averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds in Buffalo's two games for the week. Against Detroit, she scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the team get a victory. In the game against Canisius, Turner pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Turner has made 50 percent of her field goal attempts for the season.

Junior quarterback Drew Willy of the football team was selected as the male athlete of the week. Willy broke the school record with 34 completions in Buffalo's victory last weekend against Kent State. He also threw for a career-best 334 yards and had two touchdown passes. Willy finished the season with single-season records with 258 completions and a 68.4 completion percentage.
