The issue of abortion is one of the most contentious of our times. People on both sides of the debate have very deeply held beliefs. It seems impossible for the two sides to ever resolve their differences, but there is one thing everyone should be able to agree on: America would be a better place if women never had to face the difficult situation of an unintended pregnancy.
Promoting preventive measures such as contraceptive equity, access to birth control and family planning services, emergency contraception, comprehensive sex education, and others would address unintended pregnancy well before the issue of abortion ever arises. These measures represent the sort of middle ground that I believe anti-abortion groups should be willing to discuss. However, stating that distributing free condoms or information on contraception is a radical idea does nothing to address this issue. Instead, it shows just how radical the members of UB Students for Life are.
