As an organization that examines the way sex discrimination affects men and boys, we want to sincerely thank The Spectrum for its fair and unbiased coverage of the Walk With Me Event in a way that included both male and female victims without downplaying either of them. Harvard Medical School recently announced research showing heterosexual men are victims of domestic violence at rates comparable to heterosexual women and that men sustain significant injuries as well, even if they report it less than women.
Men in same sex relationships are frequently victims as well. For years these victims and their children have gone with no outreach and few services. And when they just take it in silence, their children suffer long-term damage by the exposure.
For too long, we have seen male victims of domestic violence neglected, minimized and even covered up, often because stereotypes sell better than social science. Your article refused to do that. We sincerely and wholeheartedly thank you for that.
