The independent student publication of The University at Buffalo, since 1950

Welcome!

Freshmen, welcome to the University at Buffalo! Upperclassmen, welcome back!

These are going to be some of the best years of your life! This is college... small classes, large lectures, house parties, late hours studying and everything else in between.

While I know a good number of you, to those of you who I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Peter Grollitsch and I am your 2007-2008 Student Association President.

From all 18,000 Undergraduate students' funding and support, we have been working all summer, (while you were out relaxing on the beaches), planning events and activities while also trying to increase the amount of diverse programs and services that we can provide for you.

Additionally, we have increased every club's budget by 10% in hopes of strengthening club membership while also encouraging new and more extravagant events.

I'd like to think we have something for everyone, from SA-sponsored sporting events (Bills vs. Jets game tickets) to a Senior Boat Cruise. We have comedians coming to the Center for the Arts (Dave Sedaris, Craig Ferguson, Patton Oswalt) as well as cultural acts such as the Shaolin Warriors also in the CFA.

We will be providing all of these new programs for you in addition to the annual SA online book-exchange, our sponsorship of the Math and Reading center, free lockers for commuters, Distinguished Speakers Series Sponsorship, and many, many more events and activities.

Most importantly, we are YOUR VOICE! I am here to stick up for each any every student's best interest when it comes to every matter on campus and beyond, and I fully plan to do so. Please e-mail me, pag7@buffalo.edu, or stop up to my office, 350 Student Association, if there is anything I can help you with - academic grievances, general comments or concerns, and even ideas for events or activities which you would you like to see around campus.

Also, please stop me or any other executive board member, Vice President Ashish Abraham, or Treasurer John Martin, in class, in the halls, at parties, or anywhere else you might find us, and let us know how we are doing! Let us know who you want to see at Spring Fest, let us know that you're interested in volunteering to help with SATV, SA Entertainment, Visions, or just simply say hi.

Keep your eyes and ears open around campus for information on our SA events, as well as our 120+ clubs' events. Every Wednesday we will have a full-page ad on page two of The Spectrum, highlighting the coming weeks events and sponsored activities, so there is no excuse to not be there!

I wish you all the best for the coming semester, and I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming events!
