Bell wins Furnas Award
Daniel Bell of the men's soccer team was selected as the recipient for the 2007 Clifford C. Furnas Award. The award celebrates outstanding undergraduate performance scholarship and athletic prowess.
Annual interest earnings from the C.C. Furnas Fund in the University of Buffalo Foundation, Inc. provide the award on a yearly basis. Bell was the starting goalkeeper and posted a two-season record of 24-10-4, including a 0.69 GAA and a .807 save percentage this past season.
Swim teams named to Academic All-American teams
The College Swim Coaches Association of America's Academic All-American Team named the men's and women's swimming and diving teams for the fall 2006 semester.
The women posted a 3.316 GPA as a team while the men posted a total GPA of 2.86. The women's ranking earned them a spot in the Excellent category and the men's team was placed in the Commendable group.
Two individual swimmers, men's sophomore backstroker Richard Shi and women's senior distance freestyler Eugenie Viale were selected to the Academic All-MAC team.
Corey awarded Fulbright Scholarship
Karen Corey, a two-sport athlete, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, the first ever such accomplishment for any Buffalo student. The scholarship will now serve a 10-month teaching assistantship in Germany through the Padigogischer Austauschdienst grant.
Corey spent her first four years at UB competing on the rowing team before becoming a member of the cross-country squad in her fifth year.
